February, 2003. Monteith P. Todd was inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) on Thursday, November 14, 2002 at the South Carolina Chapter meeting at the Summit Club in Columbia. A partner of Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC, Todd is a 1979 graduate of Presbyterian College and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1982. Founded in 1958, ABOTA is a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges. ABOTA and its members are dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the 7th Amendment to our United States Constitution. ABOTA membership consists of more than 5,600 lawyers and judges spread among 92 Chapters in all 50 States and the District of Columbia. Only the most qualified defense and plaintiff attorneys with courtroom experience are invited to join ABOTA. The South Carolina Chapter of ABOTA received the 2001 Chapter of the Year award from the national association along with the Michigan Chapter.
