COLUMBIA, June 20, 2007 – Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC, has been named one of the top law firms in South Carolina by Chambers USA in America's Leading Business Lawyers (2007-2008), an internationally recognized guide to the legal profession. Chambers cites Sowell Gray’s clients as “consistently impressed by these ‘thoughtful, aggressive and strategic trial lawyers.’” The guide notes that Sowell Gray’s particular “areas of strength are medical malpractice and professional liability, probate litigation and regulatory and compliance work.” Attorneys Jack Barnes, Betsy Gray, Biff Sowell, and Bobby Stepp each were singled out as “Leaders in their Field” in general commercial litigation. Elizabeth Van Doren Gray, says Chambers, “is established and well respected in the community and is a past president of the South Carolina Bar.” This is the first year Betsy has been listed in the guide. Thornwell Sowell, listed for the fourth year, “tells it like it is,” say Chambers’ interviewees. New to this year’s list, managing partner Robert Stepp is commended on his skills: “In the courtroom he shines,” says Chambers. Chambers lists “rising star and Southern gentleman” Jackson Barnes as an Up and Coming lawyer practicing in construction and business litigation. Located in Columbia’s historic Vista district, Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte provides business and litigation representation in all state and federal trial and appellate courts. Founded in 1996, the firm serves clients ranging from multi-national corporations to small businesses.
