Sowell Gray's Bradley elected president of Friends of South Carolina Libraries

April 26, 2010

COLUMBIA, SC –Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC attorney John C. Bradley Jr. has been elected president of the board of the Friends of South Carolina Libraries.

Bradley joined the board last year and served as vice president. His term as president will run through 2012.

Friends of South Carolina Libraries was created in 1989 to encourage the best of library services as well as to increase awareness and public support of libraries throughout the state.

Bradley has a long history of volunteer work with libraries. He previously was on the Friends of the Richland County Public Library board. He served a term as president of that group as well.

An avid reader whose first job was at a library, Bradley considers his work with Friends to be his full-time, non-paying job.

South Carolina's libraries are tremendous assets to the state and to people in the communities they serve, Bradley believes.

“It's exciting to be involved in this important cause,” Bradley said. “In a time when libraries nationwide are struggling to find the funds needed to provide vital services, groups such as Friends of South Carolina Libraries are even more crucial. The Friends work to ensure that the library system from which we all benefit remains among the top programs in the United States.”
